Prayer: We have begun learning the Come Holy Spirit Prayer and working on memorizing it in class. Students have until November 7th to commit this prayer to memory. It is a call and response prayer and has a leader and response.

Come, Holy Spirit: A Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Leader: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.

Response: And kindle in them the fire of your love.

Leader: Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

Response: And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.

O God, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of the faithful. In the same Spirit, help us to know what is truly right and always to rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

CURRICULUM:

Reading: We read “Bats in the Night” a non-fiction text about bats. Students summarize the main ideas of the text and also create bat posters with interesting facts about bats.

Math: We spend time reviewing for and taking our first summative assessment on place value tomorrow. We will then be moving on to chapter 4-understanding multiplication. We focus on the meaning of multiplication and how to use repeated addition. This will help us get ready for the IOWA tests in October.

We will be going back and doing chapter 2 and 3 in a few weeks.

Science: Students plan, design and build a tower to display a piece of art.  Through this they learn about the engineering process: ASK a question or problem, IMAGINE possible solutions and ideas, PLAN the materials you will need and a diagram of how to make it, CREATE the device/solution, and last, IMPROVE what you made to iron out any troubles and make it better.

Social Studies: We will locate the continents and oceans on a map. Students begin making an interactive lapbook to help them learn geography terms and locations.

Religion: Students work on their creation posters.

Language Arts: Students finish their pet paragraphs. We focus on editing and checking for correction punctuation, capitalization and spelling.

Spelling: The assignment comes home tonight and is due Thursday. The test will be on Friday. The pattern we focus on this week is Long e and a.
