Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

State in the Box: State in the Box items and a shoebox are due Tuesday! Last week students brought home a list of items they want to include and also a list of pictures to print. If you do not have a printer at home, please email me a Word document with the pictures and I will print them at school.

iMovie: iMovie book report is due this Thursday May 12th. We will create our iMovie trailer to add to this report in class next week.

Talent Show: Please join us for the HRS talent show, this Friday! The theme is “80’s Work Out”. Students are encouraged to 80’s work-out clothing.

Field Day: Field day is on May 27th. This is a half-day of school and a lot of fun! Permission slips will come home soon.

Bake Sale: The annual 4th Grade Charity Bake Sale will take place this Thursday, May 12th, at 12:10 for 3rd grade. If your child would like to purchase baked goods, please have them bring money on Thursday. (Items will cost between $.25-$1.00). All proceeds will be going to St. Vincent de Paul. Thank you for your support!

This week, we will be learning:

Math: Students should continue to study their facts at home. We will continue to do makeup tests on Mondays. We will be doing mixed review tests to keep the facts fresh in students’ minds throughout the next month. These will NOT be graded. It is just to help the students practice. No extra stress. We also continue to work on perimeter and area this week.

Reading: We will read chapter 5 in Ramona Quimby. We focus on character traits and find text evidence to support it.

Language Arts: This week we will read about “What are the Public Services in Our Community” in their social studies book and discuss our thoughts and ideas as a class.

Social Studies: Students will take the information they gathered and will type their Social Studies State-in-a-box papers this week.

Science:  We get hermit crabs this week!  Students learn about characteristics and needs of hermit crabs and begin their last engineering design challenge:  Designing, building and testing a hermit crab habitat aka “CRABITAT”!  An additional aspect to this challenge is that students will have a budget and have a limited amount of fake money to “purchase” items to include in their crabitat from our class supply.

Religion: We will learn about the different Titles of Mary. Students will illustrate their own picture of Mary.

Spelling: Homework is due Thursday and the test will be on Thursday.
