3B NEWSLETTER

Dear 3B Families,

Reminders:

Native American Project: This week we will discuss breaking up the visual aid in small chunks and not waiting until the last minute. This would be a good time to begin brainstorming ideas for the visual and collecting materials.

Classroom Help: I am looking for some help in the classroom with the Native American project. It is nice to have another adult(s) in the room to help students with researching and editing. Here are some dates and times that we will be working on the project:

Monday, January 28th from 11:25-12:20 Tuesday, January 29th from 8:35-9:20 Tuesday, February 5th from 8:35-9:20 Thursday, February 7th from 11:15-11:40 Monday, February 11th from 11:25-12:20 Tuesday, February 12th from 8:35-9:20

Please let me know if you are able to help.

Service Opportunity: During Catholic Schools Week for our service day (Tuesday, Jan. 29) we are completing a service project with our 7th grade buddies. Together we will make lunches for the homeless men at St. Martin de Porres. We are collecting items needed to make these lunches and will put them together at school and deliver them to the shelter. To do this, we need families to purchase one item on our good list and bring it to school ON Monday, January 28. Please visit the Sign Up Genius link and sign up for an item to assist with this:

We really appreciate your help and generosity!

Friday – Jeans Day: We will be planting primroses on Friday so students can wear jeans. If your child could bring in a small shovel, it will make it easier for them to plant.

    Curriculum

Reading: We will read Young Thomas Edison and talk about the important traits of an inventor. Our target skill this week is identifying the main idea and details.

Math: Students will take the 2s tests today. Please make sure you are checking their check off sheet in the front of their planner (yellow) to see what facts they have passed. Retakes are on Thursday at morning recess. We will learn the 3s facts today and students will be tested on these next Monday.

This week we will continue our study of fractions.

Social Studies: Students will continue to work on their Northwest Coast Native American artwork. These will be displayed on the hall bulletin board throughout February.

Science: Students will finalize their plans for their crabitats. They will then visit the Science store to purchase materials and put together their crabitat. These will be tested at the beginning of next week.

Language Arts: Students will work on drafting and self-editing their shelter paragraph for the Native American report.

Spelling: We will do our in class spelling bee this week in preparation for the one during CSW. Homework is due Thursday, test is on Friday. The pattern this week is vowel + /r/ sounds.
