Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

Magazines: The final magazine assembly will be this Friday. We will find out if we made our goal! Thank you all so much for selling magazines and helping support our community!

 

Coats: It is starting to get colder outside, so please remind your child to bring a jacket each day! It can be quite chilly at morning recess. Thanks!

 

Mass: We will have Our Lady of the Rosary Mass on Tuesday at 8:45 am. We will also participate in the Living Rosary on Friday at 8:45 am. Both Tuesday and Friday will be perfect uniform days.

 

Lunches of Love: 3rd grade will be donating Lunches of Love in the month of October. We will have two turn in days, Friday, October 10th and Friday, October 24th. Your donation is very appreciated.

 

Here is some more information about Lunches of Love:

 

Thank you for making and providing a lunch for someone in need.

The items in the bag must be all NON-PERISHABLE.  (No fresh fruit or sandwiches)

Can of tuna/chicken/salmon (pull-top only!)   or Vienna sausages (pull-top only!) Snack packs work great!

NO soups.

 

Ideas for lunches:

protein bar

fruit cup

juice box

chips – prepackaged

cookies – prepackaged

napkin

spoon (if not included with the non-perishable item)

 

Spanish Quiz: There will be a Spanish quiz on Wednesday, October 15th. The quiz will be on the numbers to100 and telling time.  You can go to Mrs. Myers’ webpage to find the description of the quiz and links to study guides.

This week:

Math: We will be working on addition and subtraction with regrouping. We are focusing on preparing for the IOWA tests. Students will take a few practice tests this week in math.

Last week students took and assessment on chapter 4. This assessment will come home with your child on Wednesday, please review it with your child. Thank you!

 

Reading: We read Roberto Clemente. While we read we will look for examples of cause and effect in the story.

 

Language Arts: We continue to practice writing descriptively. We also work with using plural nouns and commas correctly.

 

Science: Students begin to work with and identify four mystery minerals using geological terms like luster, scratch test and magnetism.

 

Social Studies: We will continue our study of geography.  Students finish their “Google Earth” projects.  We will also have our first state test next Tuesday, October 14th. Students will be tested on the Pacific region states and the postal abbreviations. They can use their GeoJourney to study from.

 

Religion: We will wrap up our discussion on Creation and will start discussing about Church community, chapter 2 of the Call to Faith book

 

Spelling: Homework came home today and is due Thursday. The test will be on Friday. We focus on the long i spelling pattern this week.
