Dear Third Grade Families,
I hope you had a lovely weekend. As we approach Valentine’s Day, I just want to thank each and every one of you for all of your support and kindness. I feel so blessed to be in such a loving community. I hope your week is full of love and kindness.
Mid-winter break: This Thursday is a half-day and there is no school on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Enjoy the break!
Valentine’s Celebration (Thursday)- Students can wear red, white, and pink.
We will also be having our party on Thursday from 11:00-12:00. Please make sure your child brings in their Valentine’s boxes by Thursday. School dismisses at 12.
Native American Project: This week we will discuss breaking up the visual aid in small chunks and not waiting until the last minute. This would be a good time to begin brainstorming ideas for the visual and collecting materials.
This week we will be learning:
Math: Today students took the 4s tests and we go over the o and 1 facts. Students will be tested on the 0 and 1 facts Thursday, Feb. 19th. We also continue our study of fractions. This week work on comparing fractions and review for the fractions test.
Social Studies: Students learn about the Northwest Coast Native Americans. Students will have a GeoJourney test on the North Central region states on Friday, February 20th. Students will be tested on the state location and abbreviations. A study guide will come home this week with your child.
Language Arts: Students edit their shelter paragraph and begin to research for their clothing paragraph.
Science: We analyze the data from our weather graph and calendar from January looking for patterns or trends regarding temperature and weather in the PNW.
Religion: We study Church Leaders (Pope, Bishops, Pastors…)
Reading: Students become “Kamishibai men and women.” Students will be put into groups and will pick a familiar story of fairytale. They will draw pictures and summarize the story. On Thursday, students will share the stories and pictures with other students in the school.
Spelling: No Spelling this week
Sincerely,
Erin Meland
