Newsletter for the week of Feb 18-20

February 18, 2015

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Hope you all had a great long weekend! Thank you for a great Valentine’s Day party last week! The kids had a wonderful time!

Native American Project: Today we discussed ideas and requirements for the visual aspect of the Native American report. Students should begin working on their visual at home. The packet that students brought home at the beginning of the unit has all of the information in it, if you have any questions about this don’t hesitate to ask.

Social Studies Test: The North Central States test is now going to be next Tuesday, February 24th. The study guide came home with the kids today (yellow paper).

Ash Wednesday Mass is today at 8:45 am.

This week we are:

Reading: Students worked really hard last week picking a story, summarizing, and illustrating the story. They will be sharing these with younger students on Friday. We also read a short biography called Young Thomas Edison.   We learn about important traits of an inventor.

Math: Students will be tested on the 0 and 1 facts on Thursday. If your child doesn’t pass a fact test make sure you keep reviewing it with him or her so that he or she gets it the next time. Our make-up day is on Tuesday at recess. Students will be introduced to the 6 facts tomorrow but the test will not be until Monday, March 2nd.

We review the fraction assessment from last week. The assessment will be sent home with your child this week, please review it with them. Thank you!

Language Arts: We will be working on drafting and editing our clothing paragraphs this week.

Spelling: There is no spelling this week!

Religion: We learn about the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, almsgiving and good deeds and explore ways to deepen our relationship with God through these practices.

This week’s star: No Star

Next week’s star: Eric

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Erin Meland
