Newsletter for the week of Oct. 5-9

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

Magazine Drive: This Tuesday is our last Tally Tuesday! Keep selling those magazines. Let’s try to have 100% participation from 3B! Thanks for supporting our school.

ITEMS NEEDED:  Please send in any toilet paper or paper towel rolls over the next month for building our snowboard tracks in science.

Coats: It is starting to get colder outside, so please remind your child to bring a jacket each day! It can be quite chilly at morning recess. Thanks!

Mass: We will also participate in the Living Rosary on Wednesday at 8:45 am. Wednesday is a perfect uniform days. If your child has a Rosary, please have them bring it to school on Wednesday.

IOWA Testing: We will be doing IOWA testing October 16-28th. It is important that your children are at school on these days, so please try not to schedule any appointments during this time.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit: Students have been reciting The Prayer to the Holy Spirit. This prayer will need to be memorized by Monday, November 2nd. Your child can also recite the prayer to me before this date, if they are ready. They can recite the prayer to me before school, after school or at recess.

Lunches of Love: This Friday (October 9th) is our first lunch donation day.

Thank you for making and providing a lunch for someone in need.

The items in the bag must be all NON-PERISHABLE.  (No fresh fruit or sandwiches)

Can of tuna/chicken/salmon (pull-top only!)   or Vienna sausages (pull-top only!) Snack packs work great!

NO soups.

 

Ideas for lunches:

protein bar, fruit cup, juice box, chips (pre-packaged), cookies, pre-packaged, napkin, spoon

Curriculum:

Math: We will be working on addition and subtraction with regrouping. We are focusing on preparing for the IOWA tests. Students will take a few practice tests this week in math.

Last week students took and assessment on chapter 4. This assessment will come home with your child today, please review it with your child. Thank you!

 

Reading: We finish our sequencing event for chapter 3 and then move on to chapter 4. In chapter four week focus on finding text evidence to support our ideas.

 

Language Arts: We use some our language arts time to prepare for IOWA tests. We also learn about opinion essays. In the next few weeks students will be gathering information and will write their own opinion essay on whether cats or dogs make better pets.

 

Science:  Students identify patterns in their data to determine key components to include in their snowboarding speed tracks.   They begin the engineering design process to design and build their tracks maximizing the speed of a snowboard and including specific parameters.

 

Social Studies: We will continue our study of geography.  Students finish their “Google Earth” projects.  We will also have our first state test next Wednesday, October 14th. Students will be tested on the Pacific region states and the postal abbreviations. They can use their GeoJourney to study from.

 

Religion: Students learn about the Liturgical Year and Father Oakland comes to visit and talk with 3B.

Spelling: Homework came home today and is due Thursday. The test will be on Friday. We focus on the long i spelling pattern this week.
