Newsletter for the week of Nov. 9-13

November 9, 2015

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Tuesday Mass: We have Mass tomorrow at 2:00pm. Tuesday is a perfect uniform.

Veteran’s Day: There will be no school on Wednesday, in order to honor Veteran’s Day.

Book Report:

The book report came home last week. By now, students should have picked their book and should be reading it. The report is due on Wednesday, December 2nd.

Thanksgiving Mass:

The 3rd grade is leading the Thanksgiving Mass on Friday, November 20th at 8:45 AM. The third graders will be working hard this week and next week to prepare for the Mass. We hope to see you on Friday, November 20th.

Homework for parents: Parents, please fill out the “Homework for Parents” pre-conference sheet that went home today. This will help me better prepare to address any concerns or questions you may have. Thank you for taking the time to complete this and return it to school by Friday, November 13th. Thank you!

Conference Sign-up: If you have not signed up for conferences yet, please do so online. Students attend the conference with you. You can find the link to sign-up on the Holy Rosary Website. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

Math: We work on problem solving and strategies to use when solving a multi-step word problem.

Math assessment-the subtraction assessment will be coming home with your child today. Please review this with them. Thank you!

Steps to Respect: Students learn and practice steps to join a group or friends or game. This is an important skill to practice to be more inclusive and one kids need to learn and practice at this age.

Language Arts: Students continue to work on writing a personal narrative. This week we write a draft and focus on revising and editing to make it even better.

Social Studies: Students use their iPads to research the culture of a country of their choosing. They also begin creating a culture collage using Pic-Collage.

Science: Students learn about inertia and friction.  They make a comic to demonstrate their understanding of these concepts.

Reading: We continue reading The Boxcar Children.  This week we finish chapter 9. Students also record their reading and work on reading with expression and smoothness.

Spelling: The assignment is due Thursday, and the test is on Friday.
