Newsletter for the week of May 8-12

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

State in the Box: Students need to bring items from home and a shoebox in order to create their project at school, all project creation and research is done at school. Items are due on Friday, May 12th.

Scholastic Book Orders: If your child would like to make a book order, please make sure that these are in to me by Wednesday, May 10th. Directions on how to order online are attached to the catalog being sent home. Let me know if you have any questions.

50 States Study Guide: A study guide for the 50 states test will be coming home with your child tonight. The test will be Tuesday, May 23rd.

Prayer Service: 3B will be leading the prayer service next Friday, May 19th in the school hall at 8:30am. Please come if you can!

Math assessment: Our chapter 12 assessment on graphing and measuring will be coming home with your child tomorrow. Please review this with them.

Talent Show: Please join us for the HRS talent show, this Friday! The theme is “Superhero.” Students are encouraged to wear superhero related clothing.

 

This week we will be:

Reading: We continue reading Ramona Quimby. This week we read chapter 4 and 5.

Math: We begin a new chapter on area and perimeter. This week we learn how to measure the perimeter of different shapes.

Religion: We will learn about the different Titles of Mary. Students will illustrate their own picture of Mary.

 

Science:  Students experiment with “Sheep on a Jeep”, a book about force and motion we read last week.  They roll sheep taped to cars down ramps to determine how ramp height affects motion.  During this unit, they will complete hand-on experiments to learn properties of force and motion and then apply this to our last engineering design project, making a contraption to save the sheep once they roll off a cliff!

 

Language Arts: We use our language arts time to work on our book reports.

 

Social Studies: Students continue to do reasearch for the State in the Box Project.

 

Spelling: Homework is due on Thursday and the test is on Friday.
