Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

 

I hope you all enjoy a nice and long Memorial Day weekend!

 

As we enter our last weeks of school, we are busy completing a few different projects. In the midst of learning, we are also trying to take care of some end-of-the-year details. Here are a few reminders for you:

 

No School: There will be a half-day this Friday and no school on Monday due to Memorial Day weekend.

 

Field Day: Field day is this Friday and will take place at Hiawatha! Our class will be wearing purple and green. Please be sure your child has a water bottle and good tennis shoes to wear. Thanks!

 

Permission slips need to be in by this Thursday.

 

Memorare:Students need to recite this prayer to me sometime before Thursday, May 29th

 

State in the Box: The projects will be in the hall on Wednesday, May 21st until they come home on Friday, May 30th. Please stop by to see them!

 

Bake Sale: The annual 4th Grade Charity Bake Sale will be taking place on Wednesday, May 21st.  Bring in your money to purchase some delicious treats (Items will cost between $.25-$1.00).  All proceeds will be going to St. Vincent de Paul.  Thank you for your support!

 

 

This week, we will be learning:

 

Religion: We will focus on Personal Steps to Respect this week. As a class, we discuss touching safety, being assertive, and standing up for oneself. We celebrate Pentecost and discuss our spiritual gifts.

 

Math: We continue to work through chapter 13, which focuses on area and perimeter. Students can continue to do retakes of the multiplication/division facts at Thursday morning recess.

 

Reading: We read the story Thundercakes. We focus on cause and effects.

 

Science: We learn more about the ocean ecosystem.

 

Social Studies: We learn about the Space Needle. Students learned the last section of states in their GeoJourney a few weeks ago. There will be no test on that region but the region will be covered in the final 50 states test.  Students will have their final 50 states test on Tuesday, June 3rd. A study guide will be sent home this week.

 

Language Arts:We use our LA time to work on the iMovie trailer book reports.

Spelling: Homework is due Thursday and the test will be on Thursday.

Homework: Students will create a word search with their spelling words. A template came home with them today.
