Newsletter for the week of May 11-15

May 11, 2015

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

State in the Box: State in the Box items and a shoebox are due Wednesday! Last week students brought home a list of items they want to include and also a list of pictures to print. If you do not have a printer at home, please email me a Word document with the pictures and I will print them at school.

Memorare Prayer: Continue to practice this with your child. Each child will need to have this memorized and recite it to me on or by Thursday, May 21st. If your child is ready to recite this prayer before May 21st, they can recite it to me before or after school.

Spanish Quiz:  There is a Spanish Quiz on Friday, May 29th.  A study guide is posted on Mrs. Myers’ website.

Talent Show: Please join us for the HRS talent show, this Friday! The theme is “Olympics” and 3rd grade is Brazil. Students are encouraged to wear traditional Brazil style clothes or wear the colors of the Brazil flag-blue, green and yellow.

Field Day: Field day is on May 22nd. This is a half-day of school and a lot of fun! Permission slips will come home soon.

This week, we will be learning:

Math: Students should continue to study their facts at home. I will send home a review sheet tonight. We will continue to do makeup tests on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will be doing mixed review tests to keep the facts fresh in students’ minds throughout the next month. We also continue to work on perimeter and area.

Reading: We read chapter 6 and 7 in Ramona Quimby. We focus on character traits and find text evidence to support it.

Language Arts: We work on our iMovie book reports.

Social Studies: Students continue to research their state in preparation for their State in the Box project.

Science: In small groups, students learn about and present information on various ecosystems: wetland, tundra, forest, ocean and desert.

Religion: This week, we will finish our discussion and activity about Mary and the Rosary. We will also talk about Ascension and Pentecost.

Spelling: Homework is due on Thursday and the test is on Friday. The pattern this week is words with VCCV pattern.
