Newsletter for the week of May 1-5

May 1, 2017

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

iMovie Book Report: The written part of the iMovie report will be due this Thursday, May 4th.

Mass: We celebrate Mass as a school tomorrow and students should be in perfect uniform (white polo, red sweatshirt, sweater or vest)

Reading Log: The April reading log is due on Tuesday but students do not have to do the reflection on the back because they are doing their book report this week. If they already did it then that is great! If not, don’t worry about it.

State in the Box: Students need to bring items from home and a shoebox in order to create their project at school, all project creation and research is done at school. Items are due on Friday, May 12th. This week students will be bringing home a sheet with ideas for pictures to print out at home.

Scholastic Book Orders: I will be sending home scholastic orders today. If your child would like to make a book order, please make sure that these are in to me by next Tuesday, May 9th. Directions on how to order online are attached to the catalog being sent home. Let me know if you have any questions.

Volunteers Needed: We are in need of a few more volunteers for the 2nd grade First communion reception that is hosted by third grade this Saturday. Please email Jessy Beardemphl if you are able to help out. Thanks for all you do!

This week we will be:

Reading: We continue reading Ramona Quimby. This week we read chapter 3 and 4. We focus on cause and effect.

Math: We finish up chapter 12. This week we work on problem solving and review for the chapter 12 assessment, which will be on Friday.

Science:  Students experiment with “Sheep on a Jeep”, a book about force and motion we read last week.  They roll sheep taped to cars down ramps to determine how ramp height affects motion.  During this unit, they will complete hand-on experiments to learn properties of force and motion and then apply this to our last engineering design project, making a contraption to save the sheep once they roll off a cliff!

Social Studies: Students continue to do reasearch for the State in the Box Project.

Spelling: Homework is due on Thursday and the test is on Friday. The pattern this week is words with VCCV pattern.
