Newsletter for the week of March 27-31

March 27, 2017

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Reminders:

Morning Mass: As a class we have the opportunity to celebrate Mass together before school during this Lenten Season. We will be going to morning Mass on Thursday, April 6th at 7:45 am. You can stay with your child or drop them off with me to sit with our group.

Items Needed:

By Monday, April 10th each student needs to bring in an egg carton (one dozen) and 12 normal, plastic eggs. These will be used with our Passion Book project.   If you have any extra eggs cartons that we can use, please send them in as well. Thank you!

Friday: Friday is noon dismissal for auction preparation. I look forward to seeing you at that auction and can’t wait to see who purchases our wonderful class project. Thanks for all of the parents that helped with the auction and class project!

Math Game: A time math game is coming home with your child tonight and is due on Friday.

BROWN BAG FRIDAYS FOR ST. MARTIN de PORRES MEN’S SHELTER:

Every year, as part of our Lenten Outreach, Holy Rosary School has provided lunches to the men at St. Martin de Porres shelter. Students are asked to bring a lunch or two and a toiletry item on designated Fridays during Lent.

These lunches can be kept cold, so perishable food is fine.

**Please keep the toiletry items separate from the lunches:

– March 31 – men’s socks

– April 7 – disposable razors/shaving cream (sample size)

For 3rd Grade we are collecting the following:

*Money for Uganda- Throughout Lent we will be collecting money for Uganda. We encourage you to find ways for your child to earn   this money through chores or good works so that they feel responsible for their donations. Every dollar helps!

*CHIEF SEATTLE CLUB: The 3rd grade is collecting gently used or new adult warm clothing to donate to Chief Seattle Club, an organization that specializes in assisting Native Americans.

*CANNED FOOD COLLECTION: As a school we will be contributing to the HRS food pantry. Each student should bring a can a food to contribute to the pantry

This week we will be:

Reading: Students read A Tree is Growing and we focus on text and graphic features. We also study root words.

Math: Students took their 9s test today. The also learn their 10 facts today and the test will be next Monday. We continue to work on elapsed time. We use number lines and t-carts to solve time word problems.
