Newsletter for the week of June 2-6

June 2, 2014

Dear Third Grade Parents,

Thank you to all of those that volunteered on the field trip on Friday! We had a blast and the kids learned a lot.

Reminders:

50 States Test: The final states test will be tomorrow, Tuesday the 3rd. This covers both the states AND the Postal abbreviations.

Reading Log: Due today, please turn in ASAP. There will be no more reading logs this year, but students should continue to read at home each night!
Yearbooks: Yearbooks will be passed out on Tuesday.

Library books: Please make sure your child returns all books to the Holy Rosary library this week. Report cards cannot be released until these are returned or replaced.

Special Summer Writing Fun: I would like to invite all third graders to participate in our Summer Fun Pen-Pal Program. It is a great way to keep in touch with friends from 3rd grade and practice writing skills. It’s always a big hit! If your child wants to participate the pink form needs to be turned in by Wednesday, June 4th.

Lost and Found: Please check the Lost and Found for missing items. All items will be donated on Friday, June 8th.

iMovie Book Reports: We are having a very special “movie screening” as a class to watch all of our book report iTrailers this week. This was a motivating, rich learning activity that the kids loved. You can watch all of the book trailers on my youtube webpage later this week. I will send out an email letting you know when they are available to see. The following will be the link when it is available:

This week we will be learning:

Reading: Students read “Flight” from the Anthology. The target skill is identifying fact vs. opinion and making judgments.

Language Arts: We continue to work on narrative writing this week.

Math: Students learn more about geometry this week including polygons and angles.
Religion: Students continue to learn about the book of Acts.

Science: We finish our Ecosystem unit by learning about how humans affect various ecosystems and by brainstorming tangible ways we can help. Students also complete a science journal check. Science journals will be coming home next Monday.
Social Studies: We take our final States test.

Spelling: Our final review test is this Friday. These are all words they have had before. The test is on Friday. There is no homework.
