Newsletter for the week of Jan. 23-27

                                                         January 23, 2017

Dear Third Grade Families,

Native American Project: This week we will discuss breaking up the visual aid in small chunks and not waiting until the last minute. This would be a good time to begin brainstorming ideas for the visual and collecting materials.

Re-Enrollment: Please complete your re-enrollment online submission by January 31st!  The class who re-enrolls all its students first receives a morning Doughnut party.  A free dress pass will go home by Tuesday to students who were re-enrolled by Jan. 20th.

Perfect Uniform on Friday: Please have your child wear Perfect Uniform on Friday, January 27th.  We will have a video-production company onsite that will be filming footage of class activities at Holy Rosary to develop into a marketing video.

Service Opportunity: During Catholic Schools Week for our service day (Tuesday, Jan. 31) we are completing a service project with our 7th grade buddies.  Together we will make lunches for the homeless men at St. Martin de Porres.  We are collecting items needed to make these lunches and will put them together at school and deliver them to the shelter.  To do this, we need families to purchase one item on our good list and bring it to school ON Monday, January 30th. Please visit the Sign Up Genius link and sign up for an item to assist with this:

Curriculum:

Reading:  We read the story, Kamishabai Man. We focus on how the mood changes throughout the story. We also focus on the target skill of cause and effect.

Math: Students took the 3s tests today. Please make sure you are checking their check off sheet in the front of their planner (neon green) to see what facts they have passed. Retakes are on Thursday at morning recess. We learn the 4s facts today and students will be tested on these next Monday.

We continue our study of fractions. This week we focus on equivalent fractions and comparing fractions.

Science: Students redesign their crabitats one final time! This has been a challenging project to stay within a budget, plan, and build a habitat based on our research. It was extra special to be able to test these habitats and wee what occurs when the crabs are in them! We learned just like engineers, its always important to redesigning and improving our creations.

Social Studies: Students continue to work on their Northwest Coast Native American artwork. These will be displayed on the hall bulletin board throughout February.

Language Arts: Students work on self-editing their shelter paragraph and begin taking notes on clothing. The begin drafting their clothing paragraph as well.

Religion: We study the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy and talk about what we can do to show mercy to others.

Spelling: Assignment due Thursday. Test is on Friday.
