Newsletter for the week of Feb. 29-March4

February 29, 2016

Dear 3B Parents and Students,

I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend!

Reminders:

Native American Projects: All projects are due tomorrow, you may bring them in anytime after 8:00am. Presentations will be tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.   I look forward to seeing the finished projects! Projects will be out in the halls until Friday, March 11th. Please arrange for pick up of the project either before school or after school on that date.

Morning Lenten Mass: On Tuesday, March 8th at 7:45am, we have the opportunity to attend morning Mass as a class. This is a time for us to pause before the day begins to reflect on the Lenten season and take time to be with God. Students are welcome to sit with me or with their families. Mass begins at 7:45, please do not enter if it has already begun.

Reading Log: February reading logs are due tomorrow and the March log will come home tomorrow as well.

States Test: The North Central regions test will be coming home today. Please review this with your child.

St. Martin de Porres:

BROWN BAG FRIDAYS FOR ST. MARTIN de PORRES SHELTER began last Friday. Every year, as part of our Lenten Outreach, Holy Rosary School has provided lunches to the men at St. Martin de Porres shelter. Students are asked to bring a lunch or two and a toiletry item on designated Fridays during Lent. These lunches can be kept cold, so perishable food is fine. Thank you for your generosity.

Please keep the toiletry items separate from the lunches:

  • March 4 – disposable razors/shaving cream (sample size)
  • March 11 – travel size toothpaste and disposable toothbrush (singles)

Lenten Service: The six weeks of Lent give us ample time and opportunity for service outreach. Pick and choose the activities that work for your family.

For the collections, all items need to be in by Holy Thursday, March 24th.

Here are the opportunities:

  • RICE BOWL COLLECTION
  • CHIEF SEATTLE CLUB: The 3rd grade is collecting gently used or new adult warm clothing to donate to Chief Seattle Club, a organization that specializes in assisting Native Americans.
  • CANNED FOOD COLLECTION: As a school we will be contributing to the HRS food pantry. Each students should bring a can a food (or more if they would like) to contribute to the pantry.

Spanish Summer Camp: Our own Mimi Smith is putting on a fun Spanish camp again this summer! Students will learn Spanish by singing songs, playing games and working on projects like making tortillas, piñatas & science projects.

I have attached the flyer to the newsletter email and sent home a hardcopy.
