Newsletter for the week of Feb. 17-19

                                                                                                February 17, 2016

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Hope you all had a great long weekend! Thank you for a great Valentine’s Day party last week! The kids had a great time! Also, thank you again for the surprise basket of books. I can’t wait to read them to Baby Meland! I really appreciate all of your support and generosity.

Native American Project: Students should be working on their visuals at home. Last week they brought home their notes and books. The notes will help them gather information for their oral report. Remember that the oral report should include an explanation of the visual and should also include information about their tribe’s food, clothing and shelter. Even if they create something like a totem pole for their visual, they still need to talk about the food, clothing and shelter in their oral report. Please let me know if you have any questions.

A purple sheet about the oral presentation (and the date they will present) will be coming home today with your child. Please review it with them.

Social Studies Test: The North Central States test is Wednesday, February 24th. The study guide came home with the kids last week (yellow paper).

This week we are:

Reading: Students become “Kamishibai men and women.” Students will be put into groups and will pick a familiar story of fairytale. They will draw pictures and summarize the story. Next Monday, students will share the stories and pictures with other students in the school.

Math: Students will be tested on the 6 facts next Monday, Feb. 22nd. If your child doesn’t pass a fact test make sure you keep reviewing it with him or her so that he or she gets it the next time.

We review fractions this week and take the fraction assessment on Friday.

Language Arts: We begin writing our final drafts for the Native American project. Students will be typing one, printing one and doing one in cursive,

Spelling: There is no spelling this week!

This week’s star: No Star

Next week’s star: Vivian

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Erin Meland
