Dear Third Grade Families,

Happy Catholic Schools Week!! It was great seeing some of you yesterday at the Open House. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Reminders:

Reading Log: The January reading log is due tomorrow. The February reading log will come home tomorrow and will be due on Tuesday, March 1st.

Please look at the Holy Rosary website for the CSW schedule. Lots of fun things are going on this week. We are excited about celebrating our Catholic School! Here are some reminders for the week:

Tuesday: Jeans day

Service Day: Tomorrow we will be planting primroses outside our school. If your child could bring in a small shovel, it will make it easier for them to plant. We also make sandwiches with our 7th grade buddies tomorrow.

Wednesday: Perfect Uniform

Grandparents’ Day: Grandparents’ lunch will be on Wednesday. Please see the website for specific details. I look forward to meeting the students’ grandparents.

Thursday: Perfect Uniform

Spelling Bee: Congratulations to Mary and Riley who will be representing 3B in the spelling bee on Thursday. Good luck to you both! The spelling bee will take place in the school hall from 8:30-9:15.

Friday: Star Wars Dress theme day

We also have the spirit assembly and 8th grade vs. staff volleyball game.

Valentine’s Day Celebration, Feb. 11th: Students are invited to exchange valentines with their classmates. If your child chooses to bring in valentine cards, I ask that they bring one for each student in 3B (24 students). We will be having a Valentine’s celebration from 11:00-12:00 on Thursday, Feb. 11th. Students are invited to dress in Valentine’s colors (white, red, pink, or purple) on this day as well!

Valentine Boxes:. Students will be making their Valentine’s Day boxes at home and they need to be brought in on or before Thursday, February 11th. A handout about the Valentines box project is coming home with your child today (bright pink paper).

This week we will be learning about:

Reading: This week we read a story called Technology Wins the Game. We focus on sequencing events in order.

Math: Students took the 3s fact tests today. They were introduced to the 4s and will be tested on them next Monday. We continue our study of fractions as well. This week we learn about fractions as a whole and learn how to compare fractions. Students will be taking an assessment on fractions next week.

Language Art: Students continue to work on their clothing paragraph. We focus on self-editing and writing good ending sentences.

Social Studies: Students work with a partner and create a Venn diagram to show the similarities and difference between the two tribes they studied,

Science: Science: Students carry out their design from last week and create their Maglev Transportation System (vehicle that travels using magnets).  As they do this, they also re-design keeping track of what problems they have and how they are fixing those problems.

Religion: his week we will continue to discuss about mission and the first missionaries, the 12 Apostles. 3rd graders will recognize that because we are disciples of Christ, we too are called to share “Good News of Jesus Christ” and describe ways in our own lives that we are Disciples of Christ

Spelling: There is no spelling this week.

This week’s star: Jack

Next week: No star

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Erin Meland
