December 12, 2016

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

I would like to take the time to wish you and your families a blessed Christmas. I thank all of you for your support and kind words this year. You have all made the first few months of school just wonderful! Your children are a blessing and I really enjoy teaching them each and every day! I hope your break is a fun and relaxing one. Safe travels to all of you, whether you are leaving town or braving the Christmas traffic here in Seattle.   Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

You’re Invited:

We will present our play this Wednesday, December 14th at 9:45 am. All parents, grandparents and siblings under 5 are invited. Sorry, siblings at Holy Rosary will not be able to attend, due to limited space.

Your children are so excited to share this special event with you!

Advent Outreach: We will be participating in an Advent outreach day on Thursday, December 15th. This is a chance for everyone at HRS to give back and serve others in need. All Holy Rosary School classes are asked to select organizations to support during Advent, Catholic Schools Week and Lent. Canned food, specific items of need and monetary donations will be collected to help those less fortunate.

Each 3rd grader is being asked to bring in the following:

  • A monetary ($) donation for the meals we are providing for families in need- PLEASE BRING IN BY Tuesday
  • 1 can of food for St. Vincent de Paul food pantry- By Thursday

Field Trip: This Thursday we go on our field trip to Safeway. We will leave at 9:30 and return around 10:45. Please make sure that your child wears good walking shoes and has a warm jacket. We will be walking rain or shine.

During this field trip, students will price items that a family might need to purchase for a Christmas meal. As a class, we are sponsoring two families in need this year and providing a Christmas meal for them.

Christmas Program: Our annual Christmas Program is Thursday, December 15 in the church, beginning at 6:30 with the school band performance. Following the band, each class will perform. Please see that your child reports to the classroom no earlier than 6:00 p.m. – teacher supervision in the classrooms will not begin until 6:00. Students are to wear their “Sunday best” – no jeans, etc. – please consult the handbook for general guidelines. I am looking forward to this specialist event!

Report Cards: Report card envelopes need to be returned by Friday this week. Thanks for all of your help!

Friday: On Friday, the students may wear green and red clothing. Santa hats are allowed. It is also a noon dismissal day.

Reading: We continue reading Pop’s Bridge and focus on cause and effect.

Religion: We finish preparing for our Nativity play.

Math: We continue in chapter 5 working on the concept of division. Students will take an assessment on chapter 5 on Thursday.

Spelling: There will be no spelling words this week.

Language Arts: Students are working on a project where they pretend they are trapped in a snow globe. This week we work on the art portion of the project.

Merry Christmas and see you in 2017!

Sincerely,

Erin Meland
