Newsletter for the week of April 10-14

April 10, 2017

Dear Third Grade Parents and Students,

Have a wonderful Easter and restful break with your families next week!

Reminders:

Good Friday: Friday is a NOON DISMISSAL. At 11:00am we will celebrate the Living Stations of the Cross. You are welcome to join us. Students will be dismissing in silence at noon. Thank you for picking up your students in silence at this time. It will be a perfect uniform day.

States Test:  The Southeastern States test will be on Thursday, April 13th.   Students will be tested on the states and abbreviations.  Another great way to study is by using this online game: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/USA_Geography/USA_G0_click_1024.html

Choose the “Southern States“- The only two states that are not in this section that will be on the test are Virginia and West Virginia.

Important Dates Sheet: A green paper with important dates on it will be coming home today with your child. There is a lot going on during the next month and a half! Let me know if you have any questions.

Apostles Creed:

The Apostles’ Creed is one of the prayers that 3rd graders are asked to memorize.

We will recite this prayer daily and students should practice it at home as well. They have a copy of the prayer in their filer. They need to have this committed to memory by Friday, April 28th and recite it to me for assessment on or anytime before that date.

Tuesday Mass: We have Mass on Tuesday at 10:15 am, students need to be in perfect uniform.

Passion Books: Students are excited to share their Passion Books with the first and kindergarten students this week. They have learned a lot through this project about Jesus’ life and death. Students will bring these home on Thursday to share with you over Easter! Please complete the reflection (purple) and return to school by Tuesday, April 25th.

Class Pictures: Our class picture will be Tuesday, April 25th. A form will come home tonight and is due by Tuesday, April 25hth.

State in the Box project:

We will be beginning our State in the box project this week. An information sheet (includes the description of the project and information about what they will need to bring from home) will come home with your child tonight.   Each student will pick a state to research and create a “state in the box” to demonstrate what they have learned. Students will research and make the project in class. There will be items that they need to bring from home. Items will be due Friday, May 12th.

Field Trip News: 3rd grade will be going on a FUN and EDUCATIONAL trip to the Space Needle

            Where: Space Needle

When: Thursday, May 25th from 10:00-1:00

Who: 3A and 3B

Permission slips will go home today and need to be turned in by this Thursday, April 13th. Thank you!

We will need parent chaperones to drive and help on the field trip. All volunteers need to have their SAFE Environment training and a background check on file in the office. Please fill out the form and let me know if you are able to chaperone and please let me know how many students you can safely fit in your car. We will only be able to have 7 chaperones per classroom, so I will take the first seven that volunteer. Thank you!

*****IMPORTANT NOTE*******

In order to volunteer, you must have current safe environment training on file.

You also have to have a background check on file in the office. If you have any questions please email, Melissa Tuthill at Mtuthill@holyrosaryseattle.org . Thank you!

iMovie Book Report: Each student will choose a book from this month’s or next month’s reading log on which to prepare an iMovie book report. Information will be sent home today, please look for it in your child’s filer. The written part will be due Thursday, May 4th. Students will create the iMovie trailer in class. You can view some trailers from last year here: youtube.com/user/MrsMeland3B. This is a fun and engaging report!

Outreach Items are due this Thursday, March 13th:

*Money for Uganda- Throughout Lent we will be collecting money for Uganda. We encourage you to find ways for your child to earn this money through chores or good works so that they feel responsible for their donations. Every dollar helps!

*CHIEF SEATTLE CLUB: The 3rd grade is collecting gently used or new adult warm clothing to donate to Chief Seattle Club, an organization that specializes in assisting Native Americans.

*CANNED FOOD COLLECTION: As a school we will be contributing to the HRS food pantry. Each student should bring a can a food to contribute to the pantry

This week we will be:
