Dear Third Grade Parents,



I am attaching a list of the main projects and actives we will complete between now and the end of the year.  I will also be sending out a hard copy with your child today.


This Tuesday, between 9:00-9:30/9:40, the Kennedy Band is going to play at the school hall.


“The auction was a great success!  Thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to make it happen and to all those that attended.  Our class project had some lively bidding and was purchased by Oscar Osten’s parents, Jen and Eddie.  Congratulations and Thank You!!  There will be a last call for Buybacks that will be coming out shortly.  We’ve raised over $800 from just 3rd grade buybacks, so every buyback really does make a difference.  Thank you again for all your support of our school!”


State in the Box project:

We will be beginning our State in the box project this Friday. Each student will pick a state to research and create a “state in the box” to demonstrate what they have learned. Students will research and make the project in class. There will be items that they need to bring from home. Items will be due Tuesday, May 12th.


Reading Logs:

Please check in with your child about their reading log and about reading at least 20 minutes a night.


Field Trip News:

3rd grade will be going on a FUN and EDUCATIONAL trip to the Space Needle and to Alki Beach


Where: Space Needle/ Alki Beach

When: Friday, June 3rd from 10:00-2:00

Who: 3A and 3B


I will let you know when permission slips are sent home.

We will need parent chaperones to drive and help on the field trip. All volunteers need to have their SAFE Environment training and a background check on file in the office. Please send me an email if you

are able to chaperone and please let me know how many students you can safely fit in your car. We will only be able to have 8 chaperones per classroom. Thank you!


This week, we will be learning:



This week students work on cause and effect and continue to analyze characters using strong adjectives while reading Ramona Quimby chapter 2.


Language Arts:

This week the students will be finishing their Passion Book. Next week, we will be creating their Passion Book Easter Eggs and we will be presenting with our Kindergarten and 1st grade buddies later that week.



Students took the 12’s test today. This is our last fact. We will continue to do mixed review tests throughout the next few weeks. If you child has not passed a fact (or facts) it is important that the make the test(s) up. For the rest of the week, we will continue focusing on graphing.



Students will continue to compare and contrast food chains and food webs.


Social Studies:

Students will present their Native American stories this week to the class. At the end of the week, we are going to begin our “State-in-a-box” project. Over the next few weeks, your student will be researching a state of their choice. Further more, our last states (tour 8-Northeastern Region) will be introduced and our test will be Friday, April 29th.



Homework is due on Thursday and the test will be on
